Call of the Night (Yofukashi no Uta) is a supernatural romance series about vampires, the series is being animated by Studio LIDENFILMS which is enough to get excited about the visual quality.

The author of the series, Kotoyama is actually one of my favorites, he also created Dagashi Kashi which is another amazing anime series and the top pick for this list.

You’ll find plenty more anime like Call of the Night in this list

Series’ Synopsis

The protagonist of the series Kou Yamori is a normal high school student who likes to stay up at night. He finds himself to be different from others because he doesn’t understand the meaning of liking someone.

One night, he meets an eccentric girl who happens to be a vampire, she invites him to her home to sleep together, and surprisingly, he says yes.

My Thoughts

After watching the first two episodes, I can say with assurety that I will complete the entire series and I am hooked.

Now, regarding the list, most of you will be disappointed that I haven’t included lots of vampire anime but just average boy/girl romance comedies.

And there are two reasons for that.

Firstly, I loved the dynamic between the two characters and I made this list based on that.

Secondly, I haven’t seen a lot of vampire anime, so I can’t make a vampire anime list even if I want to.

So, here is my top list of 20 anime that are similar to Call of the Night (Yofukashi no Uta)

20. Love is Like a Cocktail

I wasn’t entirely sure if I should include this series in the list, but after seeing Suzune’s reactions as she drinks blood, Chisato immediately came to my mind.

Why it’s similar

The main female character is a unique individual who is normal during the daytime but after night comes, she changes into a more drunk version of herself.

Both male MCs encourage the behavior of the girl because they adores her and love spending time with her, there are lots of cute and intimate moments between the two characters.

Synopsis

Chisato is a hard-working office lady by day, in the office, she disdains drinkings alcohol, but it’s a different story when she’s at home.

She actually loves to drink alcohol, luckily she is married to a bartender, Sora who loves to coddle her wife by making exotic alcohol drinks for her to drink.

19. Devils Line

This one is for you vampire lovers out there, the roles are somewhat reversed with the guy being an aloof vampire who falls in love with an ordinary girl after protecting her from another vampire.

Why it’s similar

Loads of interactions between the two main characters, and those two are the center of attention at all times.

Both shows are about vampires, and both have an element of romance.

Synopsis

Anzai is a vampire who works for a secret organization that hunts rabid vampires, he one day helps catch a college vampire student who is supposedly the love interest of the female protagonist.

After learning that her longtime friend was a vampire, she finds herself being drawn toward the vampire officer Anzai who detained her longtime friend.

18. The Duke of Death and His Maid

While the premise of the series isn’t exactly the same, there are lots of similarities in terms of character dynamics and the overall aesthetic of the series.

Why it’s similar

both shows have similar relaxed vibes, there is an aspect of supernatural to them but that isn’t the main focus of the show.

There are many cute moments between the two, some hilarious and some intimate.

Synopsis

Protagonist of the series is cursed by a witch, and any living thing he touches immediately withers away. He is living alone in a mansion away from his family until he is able to break free from the curse.

He also has a cute maid living with him and she loves to tease him by wearing revealing clothes or by any other means.

17. Don’t Tease Me, Miss Nagatoro

While I initially despised Nagatoro for bullying the poor senpai and teasing him relentlessly to the point where he began crying, I kept on watching the series, and eventually, it got better.

Why it’s similar

Poor mc is a loner, he is always by himself until one day he is visited by a wild female who takes a liking to him.

Both female characters are extremely horny whenever they are toying with the poor protagonist.

Synopsis

Senpai is an average high school student who is a loner in his class so he spends most of his time in the library studying and working on his manga, he is often visited by Nagatoro who loves to tease Senpai over his less than manly personality.

Yet Senpai never tries to get rid of her, I wonder if he’s a masochist.

16. Hyouka

Hyouka is a very unique series and I like it a lot, seeing Suzune act all surprised and curious when Kou showed her a smartphone and walkie-talkies, my mind immediately thought of Eru Chitanda.

Why it’s similar

There are lots of unique and interesting moments between the two main characters as they are always the main focus of the story.

There is a very similar eccentric girl and normal guy dynamic where the guy is pulled into the girl’s world of strangeness.

The visuals are gorgeous in both series.

Synopsis

We have Oreki Houtarou who leads quite a normal and uneventful life, his only desire is it conserve energy instead of doing extracurricular activities or anything out of the ordinary.

However, his peaceful life soon ends when he meets Eru Chitanda, a curious girl who is easily entertained by anything mysterious, in other words, she has a curious personality.

15. Takt Op. Destiny

Anime with good visuals and a strong female lead always takes the cake and Takt Op. Destiny is no different.

I only started watching the series because of the initial hype and I wouldn’t recommend it if I didn’t enjoy watching it.

Why it’s similar

First thing would be the visuals, both shows have some of the most colorful visuals I’ve seen.

There is an element supernatural to both series, while Suzune is just a horny vampire, Destiny is a musicart who defeats aliens with the power of music?

Synopsis

A strange meteorite fell on Earth a few years which brought along D2s, strange monsters who are attracted to music, so the entire world has stopped playing music or hosting any musical events.

Takt is traveling with a musicart by the name of Destiny, and they travel around the country playing music and defeating any D2s that might come their way.

14. My Dressup Darling

  • Episodes: 12

High school romantic comedies come everyone season but only a few have the potential to leave a lasting impression and My Dress-up Darling is definitely one of them.

The series is so beautifully crafted in terms of characters, the story, and my god the beautiful visuals… And also the fan service.

Why it’s similar

Both male MCs are kind of an oddball who don’t fit in with others, his unique and different obsessions lead him to meet the female Mc.

There aren’t a lot of distracting characters involved and the story mainly focuses on the two.

Synopsis

Gojou is the protagonist of the series who is obsessed with creating Hina dolls, his fascination with this has led him to be a loner in school, he spends most of his time in the school’s sewing club to use their machine and make clothes for Hina Dolls.

One day he meets Marin who is a cosplay enthusiast and loves to dress up as characters from the ecchi anime series (yes), she meets Gojou and is immediately taken by his sewing skills, and asks him to create Cosplay outfits for her.

13. Gleipnir

No sane person would recommend a series like Gleipnir main?y because it’s a battle royal-themed anime with a terrible world setting, so why am I suggesting this anime?

Because I am a man of culture and so are you.

Why it’s similar

The character setting is quite similar, the guy is somewho struggles to fit in with others around him, and the girl lives carefree in her world.

Both female MCs are free spirits who live in her own world with no regard for what or how other people feel, and both shows are filled with intense moments between the two couples, especially in Gleipnir.

Synopsis

The protagonist of the series, Shuuichi one day turns into a carnival mascot, he doesn’t know how or when he got this ability to transform but he decides to never use this ability and forget about it completely.

But soon he meets a strange girl, Claire Aoki who to wants to use his strange power to locate her sister, she threatens to reveal his secret to everyone if he doesn’t help her.

12. Beyond the Boundary

Though the series starts off kind of boring, the incredible visuals done by Kyoto Animation will keep you glued to your seat. If you were captivated by the visuals of Call of the Night, you will surely enjoy Beyond the Boundary.

Why it’s similar

The female protagonist is somewhat of an oddball, she sometimes comes off as an airhead, and the relationship between the two characters is quite similar with the girl being all hopeless and relying on the guy.

Both shows have quite colorful visuals and the characters are well drawn.

Synopsis

The series follows acanc high sc girl, Mirai Kuriyama who is the sole survivor of an extinct spirit warrior clan and is able to use her own blood to create weapons and hunt evil spirits.

However, she has never hunted a spirit because she is too afraid of them and that is why she does killing practice on Akihito Kanbara who is immortal, Akihito tries to help her become a spirit warrior so she doesn’t have to practice on him.

11. Darling in the Franxx

I get a lot of similar vibes from the female lead, Zero Two is an eccentric girl who lives her life the way she wants without worrying about little things which is the same thing Suzune does.

Darling in the Franxx is a series I very much love due to the impact it had on myself and the anime community.

Why it’s similar

There is a similar relationship between the main characters, with a girl who lives as a free spirit and the guy who wants to be a part of it.

Both male MCs are discontent with their current lives and are looking for something other than the ordinary.

Both couples are brought together by unforeseen circumstances; however, they soon fall in love with each other.

Synopsis

Hiro is the main protagonist of the series whose only wish is that he be allowed to pilot a Franxx but due to his incompatibility with the other partners, his dreams are slowly shattered to a point where he doesn’t feel like living.

But all that changes when he encounters a wild beauty who invites him to pilot the Franxx with her, and even though he’s hesitant at first due to Zero Two’s reputation of killing her partner, he lets go of his fears and takes a dive.

10. In/Spectre

In/Spectre is an amazing anime series about solving mysteries and helping Yokai, this series will teach you a lot about the world of Spirits and Yokai.

Why it’s similar

Both anime have a certain supernatural aspect to them which makes it all more exciting.

Both female MCs are too adorable at times, they continue to make advances toward the guy but get flustered when the roles are reversed.

Synopsis

The series follows the protagonist Kotoko who is a mediator between the world of humans and spirits, she resolves any problems regarding the supernatural to keep them from entering the human realm.

She one day meets a university student, Kurou and after sensing his potential for the supernatural, she asks him to help her in assisting a Yokai spirit. From then on, they form a team and go around solving supernatural troubles.

9. Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya

Alright so, this pick may be old but it’s totally legit, Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya looks like an ordinary high school comedy on the surface but there is a lot more than meets the eye.

The series should have a supernatural tag.

Why it’s similar

Bothws have a very eccentric female lead who takes control of every situation and tries to do things in her own comedic way.

In both series, we have a male lead who is somewhat passive toward the female protagonist yet he follows her around doing whatever she asks.

And both female leads aren’t exactly human, Nazuna may be just a cutesy vampire girl but Haruhi is something else entirely.

Synopsis

The series follows a young man named Kyon who wants to live a peaceful high school life but everything soon changes for him when he meets her eccentric classmate Haruhi.

Haruhi is truly a unique individual, she doesn’t like anything that is normal and constantly looks for supernatural things, her goal is to find espers, aliens, and time travelers.

8. Fly Me to the Moon

Tonikaku Kawaii would be the cute version of Call of the Night, there are lots of similarities in terms of characters and the overall environment of the show.

Tonikau Kawaii is a beloved anime series with fans who adore the couple and what’s not to love, the show is just too cute.

Why it’s similar

The relationship between the male and female protagonists is quite similar to Call of the Night where the female mc takes the lead and the guy usually just follows her.

Both male MCs are normal humans; however, that isn’t the case with the female MCs, but I won’t spoil anything for you.

Synopsis

Nasa is a grade A student, one day he’s walking by a road when he spots a wild beautiful girl, he tries to cross the road to meet her and possibly ask her out, but while doing so, he comes close to getting hit by a speeding truck.

However, he’s saved by the girl who then proceeds to walk away, Nasa chases after her, and after finally meeting her, he confesses his feelings and asks her to go on date with him, to which she replies. Let’s get married.

7. Bunny Girl Senpai

You must be getting tired at this point from seeing all the non-vampire anime but I have to tell you this series is worth a watch.

I was initially pulled in by the title of the show, I mean who doesn’t like to see bunny girls, and even though there were no bunny girls in the show, It was still amazing.

Why it’s similar

There’s a very similar environment in the show regarding the two main characters, the guy meets the girl somewhat unexpectedly and develops feelings for her.

The male MC insists on being together with her, and goes out of his way to spend time with her and even help her however he can.

Synopsis

The female MC, Sakurajima Mai has a condition that makes her invisible to most people around her, she wears a bunny costume and sits around at the library to see if people can see her.

However, Sakuta is immune to it and clearly sees a sexy bunny girl, he does whatever he can to help after learning about her unique condition and in doing gets afflicted with more cases like this.

6. Vanitas no Karte

Vanitas no Karte is a series about vampires, the show is filled with comedic characters, lively moments, and the gorgeous visuals

While there are no (absolutely no) love strings to be pulled between the two main characters, there are some pretty lady vampires.

Why it’s similar

Basically the visuals, I’d say those are quite colorful in both series.

We clearly have one overly eccentric main character who makes the show fun to watch while the other keeps him from flying off the handle.

Synopsis

The protagonist of the series, Vanitas is quite overzealous in his pursuit of keeping vampires from going berserk, he takes pride in his skills and uses his powers for good or that’s what he thinks anyway.

He meets up with quite a handsome fellow vampire who is in search of Vanitas’ book, after seeing him prevent a vampire from going berserk, he decides to follow him along on his journey to cure vampires.

5. Irina: The Vampire Cosmonaut

  • Episodes: 12

This is for you people who are specifically looking for a vampire anime to watch, I personally don’t find lots of similarities between the two shows.

However, the story is good, the characters are well done and I loved the connection between the main characters.

Why it’s similar

There is a very relaxed boy-girl dynamic between the protagonist, the girl is quite shy earlier in the series but soon opens up to the guy.

The girl is a vampire and the guy is human yet they both get closer by the episode and eventually develop feelings for each other.

Synopsis

Human society has finally managed to send an animal to space, and now they want to test on humans but they can’t guarantee a human’s safety.

So, they forcefully capture a young vampire girl to send her into space and basically use her as a test subject but jokes on them, she always wanted to go to the moon. She soon meets her overseer, Lev who is also an Outerspace fanatic so they both develop feelings over their mutual love for space.

4. Love, Chunibyo & Other Delusions!

Both of these whos are set in a somewhat calm and relaxing environment where the story mainly focuses on the two characters. The anime is full of hilarious delusions and lots of wholesome moments.

Why it’s similar

There is a very similar dynamic between the two couples and lots of similar vibes in terms of the overall colorful animation.

Both girls are basically hopeless in everything except one and that is living in her own world, and just having fun.

Synopsis

The story follows our protagonist, Yuuta who is your normal high school student trying to let go of his embarrassing past and live an average high school life.

He encounters a mysterious girl named Rikka Takanashi who, with the power of her delusions, manages to wow him. His dreams of living a normal high school life crumbled away as he decides to take care of Rikka’s delusions.

3. Skilled Teaser Takagi-san

Takagi-san is your average high school romance comedy but it’s somewhat unique and entertaining in a way.

The series has a somewhat relaxed vibe to it which I really love.

Why it’s similar

We have an overly mischievous female protagonist who loves to tease the male character.

The male protagonist initially is hesitant toward the advances of the female protagonist but soon accepts her eccentricities and eventually develops feelings for her.

Synopsis

As the series title suggests, Takagi-san is an excellent teaser who loves to fool around with Nishikata, she loves to tease and see his reactions.

And even though she may seem harsh for teasing him that much, she does care for him and try to make him feel better if he’s ever feeling down.

2. Magical Senpai

  • Episodes: 12

Magical Senpai seems pretty much the same thing, except for the obvious ‘not being a vampire anime’, the show is full of hilarious moments and lots of fanservice.

If you’re a man of culture, you will enjoy it.

Why it’s similar

Magical Senpai brings a very similar character dynamic between the male and female main characters.

We have an eccentric female lead who takes on a youngin by the name of ‘Assistant’ (yes I am serious that is his only known name) and they have moments full of sexual tension.

Both male MCs struggle to find their place and eventually falls in love with an eccentric yet dumb beauty.

Synopsis

The story follows our male protagonist, Assistant, who struggles to find a club to join and eventually ends up joining the Magic Club at the request of her Senpai. And thus begins their magical adventures, Assistant’s main job is to help Senpai succeed in her magic tricks and not let her make a fool of herself.

Dagashi Kashi was the first thing that came to mind when I started watching Call of the Night, the similarities are uncanny and I’m surprised why so many people haven’t noticed.

Why it’s similar

We have a similar eccentric female protagonist and a somewhat shy and hesitant male protagonist.

Both couples have personal moments between the two main characters filled with sexual tension.

Even though the male protagonist is initially hesitant with the female protagonist he soon falls in love with her and follows her around.

Synopsis

Kokonotsu is the son of a candy shop owner and his dream is to become a famous mangaka with his own talents. However, his father wants him to take over the shop for him because he is getting a job somewhere else.

And if the pressure from his father wasn’t enough, he encounters a beautiful candy enthusiast who makes it her life’s purpose to make him fall in love with candy however she can.
